STUDY OF FRACTURE IN RAILWAY LOCOMOTIVE WHEEL TYRES AND DEVELOPMENT OF MEASURES FOR INCREASE OF SERVICE LIFE

Abstract

First experience in operating of the electric locomotive of the new generation – DC 2ES10 with asynchronous traction drive have found a scarce resource of such structural element as wheel tire. It is established that the fracture has a fatigue mechanism due to higher cyclic loads and the presence of a stress concentrator – the stamp. Stricter requirements for the chemical composition of the steel and mechanical characteristics under GOST 398-2010 [2] have been developed basing on the results of comprehensive study and mathematical model that provide required service lifetime (more than 200 000 km) of wheel tyres.
